Just another date night. I was 37 weeks pregnant and super hungry. (As always.) Kevin said I could pick anywhere I wanted to go for dinner. After scrolling through all my Yelp bookmarks, I chose to go to Tre Trattoria. I had spent months wondering how delicious this place ACTUALLY was after hearing so many great things about it from my friends and family. If you wanted to kidnap me, all you would have to do was drop down some fresh pasta from Tre Trattoria in a trail and I would be SOL.
Tre Trattoria is a Tuscan style Italian restaurant located next to the Witte Museum in San Antonio. Chef Jason Dady is the mastermind behind this establishment, who you may have seen on the Food Network show, “Iron Chef Gauntlet“. He has also been named “Best Chef in San Antonio” according to The San Antonio Current and San Antonio Magazine and was a James Beard semifinalist along with many other accomplishments.
We walk in for our 6 o’clock reservation and get seated immediately. The ambiance was dark and romantic once the sun went down. It is the perfect little spot to get away and have a beautiful dinner with your loved one.
My pregnant self had to go the the bathroom about 10 times during our whole time there. So I was able to scope out how clean the restroom was. It was pretty clean. I loved the details on the doors and the sinks were pretty cool.
James, our waiter walked on over, brought us bread and took our drink order. I ordered a water, and Kevin ordered a glass of chianti.
For an appetizer, we enjoyed their fresh pulled sea salt mozzarella with toast. That cheese was so fresh and paired so well with the toast, it was perfectly charred on the edges. Olive oil was drizzled over the whole thing. It was the perfect start to an incredible evening.
Before my meal I enjoyed their market salad of the day. This consisted of a spring mix with granny smith apples, watermelon radishes, goat cheese and candied pistachios. I enjoyed this so much. Kevin had half of it and loved it just as much as I did.
For dinner, Kevin decided on the spaghetti. It had these HUGE Angus meatballs from 44 farms, the largest Black Angus beef distributor in Texas right outside of college station. These were stuffed with fresh mozzarella and were the size of my fist! (I may be exaggerating, but not that much.) Eating all of this is almost impossible, if you order it you are more than likely going to need a box to-go. The spaghetti sauce was so fresh, the spaghetti noodles were well made and everything was so flavorful.
I ordered the orriechiete with duck confit and sweet corn. Boy, was this to die for. Freshly made orriechiete pasta with soft, tender and savory duck confit. Who knew this would pair so well with sweet corn kernels swimming throughout the whole thing!? It was perfect! So perfect, that I went through UberEats to have it brought to my home one day! Not as good to-go, but I still got my fix.
We declined on the dessert. I was miserably full. Tre trattoria definitely had my happy glands jumping that night. The service was outstanding, our waiter was cool as hell, and the food was superb. You can’t ask for much else when it comes to the perfect foodie date. If you’re ever in the San Antonio area, hit up Tre Trattoria on Broadway!
